Welcome to Our Garden

welcome to our garden.jpeg

Little Green Thumbs Garden is bursting with edible beauty thanks to many donations made in the fall. Our garden funds are plentiful and available for the many exciting plans currently in the works to continue our valuable environmental education  here at TES. Please take note of  the long list donors both who donated both monetary funds and material, and support their local businesses.

Our most exciting news is that we received a grant for $2000.00 from Whole Foods Market. Our Community Partner through the grant, Red Branch Nursery continuously supports our garden. They have donated high quality organic seed starting soil, and an abundance of Fall starts that can be appreciated in our new garden courtyard between the C and D wings. This grant will bring our existing garden, as well as the “Kindergarden”  a new renovation. The old wooden raised beds will be replaced with corrugated feed troughs and filled with fresh soil. Heather Kemp from Sunshine Seeds has also graciously donated funds and a plethora of seeds for sowing in our new “digs”.

We are also excited to launch art in the garden where each classroom will have the opportunity to help create Mandala Mosaics to mount on the faces of the concrete boxes. This project is still in the making,  but hopefully will come together quick. We are still in the process of creating a materials list, finding volunteers to follow the project,  and devising a plan for purchasing tile, grout and mesh. Resources and ideas are well welcomed.

Please contact klorz@templetonusd.org with any information to help this dream fly.

A few sweet moments of gardening at school. Here you will see students cleaning out the summer harvest, preparing our beds for our winter crop, and composting our organic waste. We even saved a few seeds. Students also enjoy keeping our classroom barrels filled with seasonal color.
